Jourama Falls, Paluma National Park

A wonderfully quiet camping ground tucked within magnificent rainforest with great swimming holes.

Jourama Falls Camping Ground is at the end of a western turn off (Jourama Rd) from the Bruce Highway about a 60 min (90 km) drive North of Townsville, North Queensland.  It is within the Paluma Range National Park along the Waterview Creek and surrounded by magnificent rainforest.

What to Do?

Jourama Falls

Arriving at the Jourama Falls Camping Ground, the first place you’ll come to is the Day Visitors carpark.  This is a great grassy area ideal for picnics with some steps leading down to a quiet swimming hole in the Waterview Creek.

If you continue over the second creek crossing you’ll come to the camping area.  You can either book a permit on-line or pay at the self serve stand (it cost my family $10 for the night).  The camping ground has great grassy sites with gas BBQs, self-composting toilets and showers.  It is set inside the rainforest habitat and is very family friendly.

There is a 3 km return walk that takes you up to the Jourama Falls Look Out which provides a great view of the multiple waterfalls that makes up the Jourama Falls.  On the way is a fun creek crossing along wooden and concrete foot bridges with a chain hand rail to steady you across.  Along the track just before the climb up to the look out is a track leading down to some great rock pools where you can swim in the wonderfully refreshing water of from the falls.

Interesting Things

Waterview Creek Crossing, Jourama Falls

Look out for the multitude of bush turkeys at the camping ground who will eat any unguarded food.

Enjoy the hand railed crossing of Waterview Creek along the walk up to the Jourama Falls Lookout.

Last Word!

A great spot to camp on beautifully grassy sites.  The facilities are simple but well maintaining and the low key nature of the area makes it a great relaxing camping spot for the family or for those who want to enjoy a wonderfully quiet and natural environment.
